Art Monk is CEO of Inflexion Point Analytics , LLC, which provides expert support to Inflexion Point Strategy, LLC, an intellectual property investment bank involved in buying, selling and investing in strategic IP assets and IP-intensive businesses. Inflexion Point Analytics assembles and manages highly focused teams of technical experts, market analysts and patent search specialists on a project-by- project basis to support Inflexion Point Strategy on both buy-side and sell-side engagements.
Art has over 25 years of mentoring, and capital formation experience for technology- driven companies. He has participated actively as a founder on management teams and as a board member of over a dozen start-up ventures bringing novel intellectual property to market.
Art’s early career was at Hewlett-Packard in computer systems product management and marketing where he was director of VAR marketing for all of HP’s computer product lines in North America. At ROLM Corp. Art was group product manager in the CBX Division where the group he led managed a $350 million product line of advanced telecommunications switching systems.
As a co-founder of Keyword Office Technologies, Inc., Art was general manager US operations, board director, and corporate VP, marketing. Keyword’s IP was ultimately acquired by FTP Corp. in Boston and then licensed exclusively to Verity. Keyword’s technology now forms the basis for import/export translators in a number of products that are both telecommunications-focused as well as desktop applications-focused.
Art has consulted to a broad range of technology companies such as Apple, Fujitsu, Hughes Aircraft, Lockheed-Martin, Nippon Steel, Sportwall International, Aragon Technologies, EnviroSystems, Telus, Fujitsu, Applied Materials, Datawitness, Navigation Technologies, and Sony in matters associated with product strategy, IP commercialization, strategic partnering, and business development.
Art has also consulted to governments, research institutions, and universities including the US Department of Commerce, the Government of Canada, the Government of Alberta, the Government of Saskatchewan, the University of Calgary, and the Alberta Research Council in matters relating to IP commercialization.
Art has been an active member of the Keiretsu Forum, an angel investment forum based in Northern California and he led the effort to establish new chapters in Calgary, Long Beach, and Chicago. He has also worked closely with the Band of Angels and Financing Partners to provide counsel on the structuring of their operations.
Art has held executive management positions in 14 startup ventures including Saba, PointBase, Docutrieve, TransImage, Silicon Valley Research, and eZedia where he was CEO. He has also held Board positions in a number of early-stage companies including HPC Limited, Dial-Guard, JADE, Micralyne, IVRNet, and Keyword.
Art has been an invited speaker providing remarks and presentations on the subject of IP commercialization. He has also been an invited lecturer on this subject to various MBA programs.
Art has an MBA, and an MSc from the universities of Alberta and Manitoba, and was a Ph.D. candidate in Physics at the University of Alberta.
